Edible Oils

Edible Oils Limited, a joint venture between, Princes Limited and ADM Trading (UK) Limited is based in Belvedere London. Its production facility produces products that include cooking oils, olive oil and specialist flavoured oils for major players in the retail sector.

At Edible Oils we delivered a series of underpinning knowledge business Improvement Techniques (BIT) workshops to 16 staff and management covering topics such as H&S, team working, problem solving, Kaizen, visual management, and workplace organisation (5s). We then mentored and supported the staff over a period of 6 months as they identified, planned solutions to, and then eliminated issues and problems around the workplace.

Typically these projects contributed to reducing waste such as time, resource, energy and downtime, with all the projects including staff from different parts of the business such as engineering, production floor, management and production planning.

Examples of projects include reorganising the production room layout and developing internal supply systems aligned to the production lines and products being produced. This resulted in packaging being produced as required on a daily basis and reduced waste through damaged cartons, transportation and production time.

A second example of improvement was the installation of a centralised bar coder checking station. This was a result of the supervisors wasting time finding the bar coders in the production hall, and when found they were often faulty or have discharged batteries. The centralised system resulted in a significant reduction in wasted time; an increase in scanning accuracy as the station incorporated a test code and a reduction in incorrectly scanned product to the customer
