Enterprising Barnsley
As local providers of support for companies, and located in the Barnsley Borough we were successful in winning
the provision of support services through the Enterprising Barnsley programme.
A key area of support we delivered was the delivery and development of two networks, one focused primarily on the
AMM (Advanced Manufacturing and Materials) sector and the second on Innovation, its principles and application.
AMM Network events
We delivered a series of 8 network events covering a range of topics defined by a scoping study carried out prior
to the network delivery. These networks topics included “developing a winning operational strategy”, change management,
project management and team building. The events then focused on supply chain management and development with the final
event focusing on lean business and the 7 QCD measures.
Innovation Network events
Held at the BBIC in Barnsley these events were developed to take the attendee through the journey of
innovation and development.
The 10 half day network events commenced with a lively overview and scoping exercise for the development
of the LEP for the Borough. Other topics on the innovation journey we presented at the network included
ideas generation and protection, commercialisation and service sector innovation, innovation psychology
and environmental aspects of innovation. The final meeting of the year was on quality systems in innovation.
"The innovation workshops were both thought provoking and highly useful. I have used the tools to help other clients
discover how they can create new products through collaboration. Well worth while"
- Sharon Marshall, Right Track Social Enterprise
"I found the seminars very useful, learning new tools and techniques to improve the way our business operates.
The help from the lecturers and the confidence that this gave me was invaluable. It also helped to be able to discuss
these issues within a group of people who may have similar problems or have been through the same processes gave great
help and thought to what I need to bring back to SLP."
- Richard Carr, General Manager, Specialised Laser Products Ltd
"I have attended various workshops run by A4B and found them to be highly informative and relevant to my business.
The workshops present an ideal environment to learn essential business techniques, discuss common issues and objectives
and network with other business people. The workshops offer practical advice that can be taken away and applied to the
workplace".
